INSIDE W/ DANI ROMA

Good evening KC! Today we have an incredible interview from Dani Roma, creator of the podcast “A-Roma-Therapy”, a muralist, and designer! I asked Dani a couple questions to get the inside scoop on what it’s like to be an artist in the art district, what motivates her, and just a little about her! Keep reading to see the full interview!

What Inspires your creativity?

“Honestly, everything around me inspires my creativity. I'm most drawn to people, nature, and color. I love cartoon graphics and bold imagery, which I typically see in bright colors.”

What does your artwork represent?

“ My artwork represents life and joy. I rediscovered my passion for art while recovering from one of the most challenging times in my life. I built my art business to represent new beginnings and living life to the absolute fullest. I strive to design artwork which brings joy to the world.”

How do you make it, in the art community?

“ I do a little bit of everything. I create wearable art, digital designs, logo art, custom pieces, and large scale murals. I run an Etsy shop, make products to resale at a local boutique, and I am constantly promoting my business on social media to bring in new clients. But, I personally believe the way to make in this business is by having a positive attitude and building strong customer relationships.”

What does art mean to you, and what does it mean for society?

“ To me, Art is a visual representation of how one views the world. I use art as a way to communicate my thoughts and ideas. For society, art is a way to bring people together through shared emotions and experiences. Art also has the power to inspire and instigate conversation. Art is a magical way to build community.”

How does being from KC affect your work in the Artist community?

“ I am originally from southwest Missouri, but moved here when I was 19. This city quickly became my home. I love this City, and it has welcomed me with open arms. Kansas City is rich with culture and attitude. It is a vibrant community, and living here really has made me the artist I am today.”

What is currently your favorite medium?

“ It depends on my mood l suppose. I love sketching with nothing but a fine point sharpie, but I truly love painting on a large wall with giant brushes. Nothing beats seeing your artwork slowly come to life in a larger than life kind of way. So, I think walls have become my favorite canvas and muraling my favorite medium (it that can be considered a medium :))”

Lastly, but never least, a little about yourself?

“ I started my art business in 2021. I previously taught high school English, Theatre and Speech for nine years. I loved teaching, but what I always loved most was helping my students create something from nothing. I have always loved to draw and craft, and through teaching theatre I was able to explore this passion even more. I am happiest when I am creating, but when I am not in the middle of a project, I am playing with my two pups, Eleanor and Rigby. (In fact, Eleanor has been incorporated in three of my larger art pieces and murals.) I love spending time with my family, friends, and exploring this awesome city I call home. “
